Analysts' Predictions on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
In a recent report on major IT trends Gartner mentions that
"The enterprise architecture process must switch from limiting complexity by limiting choices
to accelerating innovation and execution by coordinating complexity." In other words
the future is in being able to manage the complexities and not be crippled by it.
Internet has democratized application deployment, adding another dimension to the
already complex integration issues, making SOA the preferred solution.
The fact that SOA is gathering popularity and will continue to do so is borne out by
research reports from Gartner and others
- Gartner estimates that by 2008, more than 60% enterprises will use
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) as a guiding principle when creating
mission critical applications
- Gartner estimates that by 2008, Service Oriented Architecture will
provide the basis for 80 percent of development projects.
- Gartner predicts that SOA will be used in part in more than 50% of new,
mission-critical applications and business processes designed in 2007,
and in more than 80% by 2010 (0.7 probability).
- According to Aberdeen group, Global 2000 companies implementing
Service Oriented Architectures will collectively accrue savings of $53 Billion by 2010
